April 9
It's so easy for us to stress out about the future and want to know everything that lies ahead. But Scripture shows us that we don't need to see the whole road, we just need enough light for the next step.

Three Thoughts
The Bible says God's Word is a lamp to our feet. It doesn't show us the entire future like we want it to. It just lights up enough for the next step. And I think that's by design because God wants us to remain close to him, one step at a time. That's how faith works.
PSALM 119:105
When God's Word unfolds for us, it brings light to the darkness. It shows us what's in front of us and helps us understand. So even when things get really overwhelming for us, Scripture has a way of making things clear. It boosts our confidence in the God who holds all things together.
PSALM 119:130
God's commands are often shown as a lamp or a light to our lives. They're meant to guide us in how we choose to live. He didn't give us his Word to just let it sit on a shelf. He gave us instructions to light our path, to show us where to step, and also what to avoid. When we learn to follow the light, we don't be led in the wrong direction.

Two Quotes
Author Eugene Peterson on adapting our lives to Scripture:
"Christians don't simply learn or study or use Scripture; we assimilate it, take it into our lives in such a way that it gets metabolized into acts of love."
Teacher and author Dallas Willard on Bible memorization:
"Bible memorization is absolutely fundamental to spiritual formation."
Prayer
Father, I don't need to see everything in the future, I just need to see where you are moving in my life. So I ask that you would light my path today. When I feel lost or confused or overwhelmed, remind me that your truth is the lamp to my feet. Help me trust you today. Amen.
Question
What decisions are you facing right now that you haven’t brought to God for his guidance?
See you next Thursday,
Zach
P.S. This week I'm writing a chapter for my next book on "When Life Gets Hard" and how we are to respond as Christians. It's a weighty chapter because I want to make sure I'm saying the right thing and being as helpful as I can with it. So your prayers are much appreciated!
