Some things in life were never meant to be carried alone. That's why God gave us each other, to help when times get tough.

Three Thoughts

When the Bible talks about bearing someone's burdens it's all about refusing to let them carry it by themselves. You don't need all the answers or a quick fix for them. God placed you in their life to be present and share the weight, shoulder to shoulder.

GALATIANS 6:2

Sometimes crying alongside someone is the greatest thing we can do to help. It brings you to the same level of sorrow that they're experiencing and let's them know you're there. Rejoice when they rejoice. Grieve when they grieve. Choose presence over advice every time.

ROMANS 12:15

True encouragement is rooted in telling someone the truth about who God is making them into, especially when they can't see it themselves. One honest text message can help someone keep it together for the week. Whoever is coming to mind right now, send them the text.

Two Quotes

Author Ann Voskamp on happiness:

“There is a strange and aching happiness only the hurting know.”

Catholic nun Mother Teresa on love:

“The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread.”

Prayer

Dear God, something that I’ve noticed about myself is that I’m quick to give advice to people, but slow to sit with them. Teach me to show up for others this week. Help me carry what I can carry, weep when they weep, and say the right words to build them up. Amen.

Question

Who in your life is carrying a weight that could use your shoulder right now?

P.S. I've been working my way through this awesome series of books called "Short Studies in Biblical Theology." They're simplified, which is right in line with my style. Check them out if you want to go deeper in any theological topic.
