October 8
This is for all of my control freaks out there. There's a lot of freedom when you realize you're more a manager than an owner of the things in your life.
Three Thoughts
The earth and everything in it belongs to the Lord. Everything. The house, the car, the paycheck, the kids asleep down the hall, all of it. I know how that can sound a little threatening the first time you hear it, but it's actually freeing because you were never meant to carry the weight of owning everything.
PSALM 24:1
God says that the silver and gold are his, which means that he always has the resources to take care of his kids. God isn't stressed out about the economy like we may be. So when you're lying awake, doing math on the ceiling, remember this: The one who owns it all also knows exactly what you need tomorrow.
HAGGAI 2:8
King David gathered a mountain of gifts for the temple then offered everything to God. He said that everything comes from him anyway, meaning we're only offering back what was already his. That's how we should view being generous to the people around us, just returning a little of what was always his.
1 CHRONICLES 29:14
Two Quotes
Missionary and author Hudson Taylor on God’s provision:
"God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply."
Pastor and author A.W. Tozer on having enough:
"The man who has God for his treasure has all things in One."
Prayer
Dear God, I often forget that ultimately everything is yours, holding onto what I have and worrying that it won't last. Remind me today that it all belongs to you anyway, and that you always have enough resources. And Lord, help me to manage what you've already trusted me with. Amen.
Question
If you truly believed God owns everything in your home, what's one thing you'd stop worrying about this week?
